Tampere, the twin city of Trondheim, invites Norwegians to collaborate and to bring Drømmeløftet mood to Finland! For the first time ever Tredea and Finpro are flying a plane full of guests directly from Trondheim to Tampere to a matchmaking event for Norwegian and Finnish companies and organizations.

A completely new form of networking will take place at the Subcontracting Fair 2015 next Tuesday in Tampere, Finland. Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea, together with Finpro and Tampere Trade Fairs Ltd. are hosting a matchmaking event for Norwegian and Finnish companies and organizations in the spirit of Drømmeløftet. The meetings focus on new innovations that solve the challenges of traditional industries.

The traditional industries globally are facing the challenge of adapting to a more rapidly changing business environment, for example the move towards Digitalization. One of Tredea's missions as the economic development engine, is to build and enable bold programs to support businesses in the Tampere Region in adapting quickly. By extending the Drømmeløftet concept to Tampere, the Tredea team wants to build co-operation and a bridge of innovation between Trondheim and Tampere. The aim is to find suitable business partners for companies, universities, research institutes and individuals from both regions and bring them together.

Drømmeløftet is a term used by Norwegians that means lifting the spirit, making dreams come true and innovating new business. Drømmeløftet translates into Dream Commitment.

Innovation Norway, led by CEO, Anita Krohn Traaseth, is a key driver in Norwegian innovation policy. She offers more precise description of the Dream Commitment:

“The Dream Commitment is an initiative and a term we use to describe a new strategic effort, a wide mobilization aimed at delivering important, specific proposal to the politicians based on suggestions from the Norwegian industry and Norwegian society on how we can overcome the coming transformation."

FINLAND ADAPTING TO A NEW TECHNOLOGY LANDSCAPE

From heavy industry to smart industry

For more than a hundred years, Tampere has been a location where machines have been built for various heavy industry applications. Globalized companies have survived and changed. Innovation and investment in mobile technology R&D in universities has created an ideal environment for the birth of many new companies in Finland. In a way, many cities have benefited from the recent decline in fortunes of larger technology companies as a large pool of talent has been freed up as a result. The powerful industry cluster that evolved around mobile communications remains strong. Many former Nokia employees have founded their own small companies or been recruited by firms at the cutting-edge of technology, in the fields of mobile networks and mobile gaming technology.

ICT, Games, IT, IoT - Innovation Centers

The New Factory – one of Finland’s leading startup accelerator and business incubation centers – is an example of the kind of organization that thrives in the rich innovative environment that Nokia helped to create in Tampere. It connects business and people providing the space, tools and facilities for collaboration. The center has 170 partner businesses, has created 70 start-up companies and has created more than 400 jobs. Jukka Matikainen, director of New Factory, says: “We believe in the open-innovation, co-creation and lean start-up concepts. It means that start-ups can be successful by focusing on the essential and stress testing the critical business assumptions at an early stage.”

    National, regional and local

Local firms say that the municipal governments are proactive, listen closely to their concerns, and attempt to promote international activities. This has helped them to weather the challenges the cities have encountered during the past few years, including anemic economic growth in the Eurozone. Outside our capital area many cities like Turku, Tampere, Vaasa, Oulu, Lahti and Kuopio have formed their own successful clusters and specializations in order to stimulate economic growth. Examples of such projects include Smart City, Renewing Industry and Future Health -projects.
