The City of Tampere aims to be carbon neutral by 2030. This means that at least 80 % of the emissions are reduced and the rest compensated in an appropriate way. Much of the emissions come from private companies, communities and residents. That is why the City of Tampere launces the climate partnership model for companies and communities in the Tampere Region.
In the Climate Partnership, companies and communities commit to the carbon neutrality goal by identifying key emissions of their operations and making a plan to reduce them. They can also tell how their decisions affect someone else’s emissions account.
Each participant in the Climate Partnership will be allowed to do climate work in his or her own way, and bring out at least one climate action each year, which will be communicated to clients and residents, says Program Manager Laura Inha from the City of Tampere.
Tampere Region Climate Partners meet regularly for networking events such as breakfast meetings and the annual Tampere Region Climate Forum. Regular meetings enable effective networking, finding new partners, as well as sharing best practices. The City of Tampere communicates the actions of Climate Partners and gives the companies and communities that make the commitment a logo that the participants can be can use in the communications and branding. Through the Climate Partnership, companies and communities gain visibility and awareness of their climate actions, as well as guidance and tools for climate work.
The Tampere Region Climate Partnership model will be introduced and explained in more detail as a part of Johtajuussymposium event program on September 9th, 2020. The launch session will be held remotely and in Finnish. For more check the event page.
